Times It's a dream come true. The opening on Roots to Ends and Tranquility Day Spa at a new location, with all the glamorous, high-style touches is just what DJ Alexander has been dreaming about for years. Now she's got it and she's on cloud nine with the excitement and positive feedback she's getting from clients. The salon, on the main floor of the former Pizza Delight building on Charles St. East, includes a large reception area with lots of light-coloured wood contrasting with the dark plank wood floor. Earth-tone colours tie the entry to the stylists' area where custom shaped mirrors hang over brushed-stainless steel stations. "I wanted it to be a place of art because that is what our work entails," said Alexander. She designed everything that meets the eye - and even some things that your can't see. There is a separate hair washing area and yet another space for treatments such as colours and permanents. A specially-ventilated room was incorporated for nail treatments and manicures. Up on the second floor, there is a wide open area where bridal parties can all be together while they get their nails and makeup done for the big event. It's the lower lever of the building where clients can get away from it all and enjoy a little pampering. When someone goes into the Tranquility Day Spa, it's like entering a different building. The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet, with subtle music in the background and dim lighting that creates the feel of a luxury retreat. Heated floors keep clients toasty while they move from room to room in their soft white robe. There are several treatment rooms, each designed specifically for the work that is done inside. There is the pedicure room where two, large chairs offer the best in comfort and the latest technology in foot care. A more simple room offers space for massage techniques - such as the stone therapy or aromatherapy massage - or body wraps like the moor mud, green coffee, or Moroccan cocoon wraps. The main attraction is the Vichy shower. It's a combination of water pressure and temperature that works to stimulate the skin while the client rests comfortable on a horizontal bed. The Vichy is the water element that qualifies Tranquility as a genuine day spa. Alexander said any business can add the word spa to its title, but to be technically considered a spa, there must be at lease one treatment that uses water. Alexander is more than happy with what she and husband, Scott, have been able to accomplish, She was able to take a picture in her mind and turn it into a workable idea that tradesmen and Scott, who acted as contractor, could understand and bring to reality. That was no small feat. Alexander has been visualizing her dream salon and day spa for years. But she never told anyone, other than a passing mention. Once she and her husband bought the former pizza restaurant in February 2003, they had a lot of work to do to turn it into a whole new place. Aside from an addition and the interior renovations they dug out the cement floor in the basement to add the heated flooring. It's work that hasn't gone unnoticed by clients. Alexander said so many people have complimented her on the outcome - some have even cried, knowing this is her dream come true. But people don't stop dreaming. Alexander is sure more and new ideas will continue to pop into her mind. For now, she wants to be an example for others so they can see that believing in what you want can make it happen. |
